Fresno CA man charged with attempted rape after using Tinder app

A Fresno man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping and attempting to rape a woman he met on a dating app, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives attended a house on the 3900 block of Santa Fe Avenue near Palm Avenue after a report from a woman who said Fabian Ornelas, 30, attempted to kidnap and rape her, according to the sheriff’s office.

The two had met through the Tinder dating app, where Ornelas had a profile as “Dominick,” authorities said.

After spending time together, Ornelas did not let the woman go and attempted to sexually assault her, detectives said. She freed herself before calling the sheriff’s office.

Investigators arrested Ornelas on suspicion of kidnapping, forcible confinement, attempted rape and other allegations, the sheriff’s office said. His bond was set at $ 243,500.

Investigators said it was possible that Ornelas had committed similar acts in the past. Potential victims or anyone with additional information are urged to call Sgt. Chad Stokes at 559-600-8144.
